Pros:
- It’s Indiana Jones
- Campy 50s schtick (when it works)
- Constant action (motorcycle chase, jungle chase)
- A few comedic bits that work
Cons:
- Aliens, WTF!
- Campy 50s schtick (when it doesn’t)
- Where are all the cool traps?
- Cate Blanchett’s terrible Russian accent
- Tarzan vine swinging
- CGI overkill
The verdict: Entertaining, but…weird. As they say, it’s the journey not the destination. It’s a good thing the journey in this flick is decent enough because I hate where it ended up.

I don’t know, I thought that Cate Blanchett’s accent was pretty decent, albiet very heavy. It was an enjoyable movie overall, but it doesn’t rank up there with Ark or Crusade.
GAH!! I spelled albeit wrong. Darn fingers!!!
I’ll admit I’m pretty critical of Russian accents. I thought she had hard time keeping her British roots out of it, but who knows maybe a bad, villainous Russian accent is just what a kitschy flick like this called for.
Yeah, I’ll give you that. There were times her normal accent came out, which shocked me because she’s such a phenomenal actress. However, Indy did say something about her coming from Serbia (or some other Soviet/Socialist type country), rather than Russia…and as I’m not an expert on Serbian, she may have very well mastered the accent (minus the British/Australian accent kicking in).
